10/2/2008 - ULLMAN SAILS DEVELOPS J/24 KEVLAR GENOAS Following Ullman Sails’ longstanding involvement in the J/24 class, Ullman Sails UK has been working closely with the UK J/24 Class Association to develop, test and evaluate Kevlar genoas for the class. 10/1/2008 - A LOT OF “SHARK” IN THE EUROPEAN MELGES 24 FLEET As the European Melges 24 fleet continues to thrive, some of the world’s top competitors gathered at Lake Garda, Italy for the Circolo Vela Torbole Melges Week, September 25-28, 2008. Ullman Sails has continued its development in the class and the popularity of the Ullman Melges 24 sails is growing. 9/25/2008 - ONLY SPEED FOR DANES ON LAKE COMO The final stage of the 2008 18ft Skiff European Grand Prix hit the Italian waters of Lake Como last weekend with speed. Danish team “GP Covers,” including Soren and Flemming Clausen of Ullman Sails Denmark, sailed a tightly contested event, finishing 2nd place overall in the regatta, and earning 3rd place overall in the final European Grand Prix standings. 9/23/2008 - FINDING SPEED AT THE CANADIAN J/105 NATIONALS Arthur English, Glen Malcolm and team on J/105 “Starcross” took the 2008 Canadian Championship by storm over the weekend, September 19-21, claiming the Canadian J/105 fleet’s “most coveted trophy of the year. Read more 9/22/2008 - “DRUMSHANBO” WINS 2008 SoCAL CHAMPIONSHIPS This year’s Beneteau Cup in San Diego was a big success with eight Beneteau 40.7s competing for the 2008 Southern California Championship. The fleet featured sails from five different sailmakers, but only one came out on top. 9/22/2008 - “TEAM TRAFFIC” WINS J/22 NORTHEAST CHAMPIONSHIP Phillip "Flip" Wehrheim, Jimmy Barnash and Scott Kinsella piloted their J/22 “Team Traffic” to a win over 37 other boats at the J/22 Northeast Championships as part of the 2008 Lake George Open in Diamond Point, New York. 9/22/2008 - “LICKITY SPLIT” CLAIMS CATALINA 38 NATIONAL TITLE Joe Degenhardt and his crew on “Lickity Split” took a complete sweep of the 2008 Catalina 38 Nationals over the weekend hosted by Shoreline Yacht Club in Long Beach, CA. “Lickity Split” raced with all Ullman Sails and finished first in all five races and rounded every buoy in first place, except one! Smooth water and a light breeze from the south-southwest greeted racers in the inner breakwater area. 9/16/2008 - FLYING AROUND THE CORONADOS It was time for a change this year. So on September 13th, the Flying Tiger 10 fleet in San Diego started the 2008 Around the Coronados Race as a one-design class with their own start. At the end of the 32 1/2 nautical-mile race, Paul McPherson and team on “Niuhi” sealed their victory in the six-boat fleet with over two minutes ahead of second place. Read more 9/12/2008 - PERON TACKLES CAP ISTANBUL As the Cap Istanbul 2008 approaches, Ullman Sails continues its involvement in grand prix offshore racing with sail development from Ullman Sails France in conjunction with skipper Eric Peron on Figaro Beneteau “L’Esprit d’Equipe. 9/9/2008 - “TYPE A” FINISHES FOURTH AT BENETEAU FIRST 36.7 NAS Ullman Sails customer John Fromen and his crew on Beneteau First 36.7 “Type A” had a strong showing at last week’s 2008 Beneteau First 36.7 North American Championships, September 3-6, in Chicago. 9/2/2008 - THE “GRAPHIX” SUMMER WINNING STREAK Tom Gilbert and his crew on Soverel 33 “Grafix” have continued their winning streak this season with two more huge wins in the Pacific Northwest. This past weekend in Bellingham, “Graphix” was first in class and first overall at the 35th Annual Mercedes Benz PITCH regatta. 9/2/2008 - IN FRONT OF THE FLEET AT ANNAPOLIS RACE WEEK Ullman Sails customers in Chesapeake Bay finished up the summer sailing season on a high note, winning first in class at the 2008 Annapolis Race Week last weekend. Dave McAleer and his team on “Caribbean Soul 2” took first overall in the PHRF division, winning three of the four total races in a fleet of seven boats. 8/25/2008 - ADD AN OLYMPIC GOLD TO TWO WORLD TITLES Congratulations to Spain’s Tornado team of Fernando Echavarri and Anton Paz Blanco who claimed the 2008 Olympic gold medal last week in Qingdao, China. The two-time Tornado World Champions showed consistency and skill in the battle to secure their first Olympic title just ahead of the Australians Darren Bundock and Glen Ashby. 8/25/2008 - NO ROOM FOR MISTAKES AT J/22 WORLDS Phil Wehrheim of Rochester, NY, with Ullman Sails loft owners Max Skelley and Greg Koski finished 3rd place overall at last week’s J/22 World Championship, August 17-24, 2008. Close behind was 2008 Etchells World Champion Bill Hardesty along with Ullman Sails’ Erik Shampain finishing in 5th place overall. 8/24/2008 - “ILLUSION” & “TURBO DUCK” STRONG AT MUMM 30 NAs In a weekend of close racing in Newport, RI, Ullman Sails customers claimed two of the top three spots in the 2008 Mumm 30 North American Championships. John Podmajersky and his team on “Illusion” finished second overall, just edging out “Turbo Duck” in a tie-breaker. 8/11/2008 - FIRST OVERALL AT CORSAIR NATIONALS Congratulations to Bob Harkrider and his crew on F 28R “Bad Boys,” whose performance at the 2008 Corsair Trimaran Nationals not only earned the team first in class, but first overall for the event as well. 8/11/2008 - ULLMAN CUSTOMERS DOMINATE SCHOCK 35 NATIONALS Ullman Sails customers crowded the top four spots at last weekend’s Schock 35 National Championships, sweeping the eight-boat fleet in Long Beach, CA. All four boats competed with full Ullman Sails inventory! Bruce Bennet and Bob Marcus’ “Code Blue” led the way with 20 total points, finishing ahead of a tightly contested second place. 8/5/2008 - SANTA BARBARA KING HARBOR RACE Ullman Sails customers relished the breeze that kicked up last Friday during the 36th Annual Santa Barbara to King Harbor Race, when late weather predictions held true and competitors saw winds up to 25 knots around Point Dune. 8/5/2008 - WILSEY’S “RED DAWN” TOP OF J/24 FLEET AT HEART CUP John Wilsey’s J/24 “Red Dawn” had a successful weekend on the racecourse, winning the J/24 division of the 31st Annual Heart Cup in Oceanside, NJ, August 1-3, 2008. The “Red Dawn” team, which competed with full Ullman Sails inventory, took first place in the 5-boat fleet finishing two points ahead of the second place finisher. 8/5/2008 - CONSISTENTLY FAST IN J/22 FLEET IN MISSISSIPPI Ullman Sails customer Chris Wjentjes and his team sailed consistently over two weekends to win Pass Christian Yacht Club’s Summer in “the Pass” Regatta in Mississippi. The team took first overall after solid racing both weekends. 8/4/2008 - J/80 “HENDRIX” WINS DILLON OPEN Kurt Vanderwall and his crew on J/80 “Hendrix” battled for first place and held on to the top spot at last weekend’s 2008 Alpine Dillon Open in Colorado. Competing with 100% Ullman Sails inventory, the “Hendrix” team won in a tiebreaker with Don Meinhold’s “Asylum” with a first place finish in the opening race of the event. 8/4/2008 - TOP OF THE FLEET IN BUZZARDS BAY Jeff Pierini’s J/80 “Shakedown” and Brian Keane’s J/105 “Savasana” each had outstanding performances last weekend, winning their divisions at the 36th annual Buzzards Bay Regatta in Marion, MA. 8/4/2008 - “TIAMO” DOMINATES J/80 NORTH AMERICANS Ft. Worth’s Bruno Pasquinelli and his crew on J/80 “Tiamo” took first place at the 2008 J/80 North Americans in Marina del Rey this weekend after dominating on the race course, enabling them to win without sailing in the final race. 7/31/2008 - HESSE FINISHES 6TH AT MELGES 32 NATIONALS Congratulations to Bob Hesse and team on Melges 32 “Lake Effect” who finished 6th at the Melges 32 Nationals, held in conjunction with the New York Yacht Club’s Race Week presented by Rolex in Newport, RI, July 25-27. 7/29/2008 - TOP OF THE BENETEAU 36.7 FLEET IN NEW YORK Last weekend, Ullman Sails customers finished first and second in the highly competitive Beneteau 36.7 fleet at the 35th annual Youngstown Level Regatta. Both boats competed with Ullman Sails upwind inventory including mainsails, genoas and jibs to win three of the five races sailed in the 18-boat fleet. 7/29/2008 - “JADED” WINS J/24 WESTERN REGIONALS Deke Klatt and his crew on J/24 “Jaded” claimed the J/24 Western Regional Championships in Ventura last weekend, earning them a berth at the 2009 J/24 World Championships in Annapolis in May. 7/28/2008 - J/105 “STINGER” EARNS A 2ND PLACE AT TEXAS RACE WEEK Ullman Sails customer Bee Bednar and his crew on J/105 “Stinger” took second in class out of 13 spinnaker boats at Texas Race Week off Galveston Island last week, July 24-26. Bednar’s top finish at Texas Race Week earned him the Texas Navy Trophy for the second time in three years. 7/25/2008 - LA SOLITAIRE DU FIGARO IS OFF! Keep an eye on the 39th edition of La Solitaire du Figaro as Eric Peron makes his first attempt at the single-handed 1,880 nautical-mile race on the Figaro Benenteau “L’Esprit d’Equipe.” Peron, fresh off his third place finish at Transat AG2R 2008, will be competing with 100% Ullman Sails inventory. 7/24/2008 - J/105s DOMINATE IN SCREWPILE LIGHTHOUSE CHALLENGE At this week’s Screwpile Lighthouse Challenge in Southern Maryland, the J/105 fleet was dominated by Ullman Sails customers as they swept the top four spots in the 15-boat fleet. Cedric Lewis and Fredrik Salvese’s team on “Mirage” led the way, taking first place overall with a definitive 11. 7/16/2008 - FIELD TAKES FIRST IN MELGES 24 FLEET IN RHODE ISLAND Alan Field and his crew on Melges 24 “WTF” won the 2008 Coastal Living Newport Regatta in Newport, Rhode Island last weekend. Competing with partial Ullman Sails inventory, including a main, jib and spinnaker, “WTF” beat out a fleet of 13 boats, finishing with a total of 12 points. 7/16/2008 - GAUDIO WINS 3RD IN A ROW AT CAL 20 CHAMPIONSHIPS Ullman Sails customers had a strong showing at the 47th Cal 20 Class Championships in Long Beach last weekend. Mark Gaudio won the event, claiming his third title in a row in the Cal 20 class and his 4th title in the last eight years. 7/16/2008 - AUSTRALIAN 505 TEAM TAKE SECOND IN FRENCH CHAMPIONSHIP The Australian 505 team of Michael Quirk and Simon Reffold took second place at the 505 French Nationals last weekend, July 11-14, adding another top-three finish to their European tour. The pair took third place at the 505 UK Championships in the beginning of July. 7/15/2008 - TOP OF THE FLEET AT RED GRANT REGATTA Ullman Sails customers took first place finishes at the 62nd Annual Red Grant Regatta, July 12-13, including the title for the J/80 East Coast Championship, which was held in conjunction with the event. 7/10/2008 - SECOND AT FIRST EVER MARSEILLE ALGER CUP In the first edition of the Marseille Alger Cup, the French team of Laurent Bourguès and Nicolas Boidevezi finished second overall in the roundtrip 1,000 nautical-mile race from Marseille, France, to El-Jazair, Algeria. 7/5/2008 - 18FT SKIFF “SLAM” CLAIMS FIRST OVERALL AT 2008 EURO CHAMPS The Australian 18ft skiff “SLAM” had a convincing victory at last week’s 2008 European Championships in the south of France, winning the overall title with a race to spare. Crewed by Grant Rollerson, Anthony Young and Tom Partington (with Drew Waller standing in for Tom on the last day), they showed great speed throughout the event. 7/4/2008 - DUTCH TAKE FIRST AND SECOND AT J/22 EUROPEANS The Dutch Heerema Sailing Team stood at the top of the podium on July 4, crowded by their countrymen as they accepted top honors for the 2008 J/22 European Championships in Rochelle, France. 7/2/2008 - “SINN FEIN” AWARDED SECOND STRAIGHT LIGHTHOUSE TROPHY Ullman Sails customer Peter Rebovich and team on Cal 40 “Sinn Fein” who snatched up multiple honors at this year’s Newport Bermuda Race, including the prestigious St. David’s Lighthouse trophy for the top finisher on ORR corrected time in the St. 6/30/2008 - GREAT BREEZE TO FINISH OFF THE 2008 ULLMAN INSHORE CHAMPS Acura presents Ullman Sails Long Beach Race Week, June 27-29, hosted three days of competitive racing with boats sailing in up to 20 knots of breeze over the weekend to close out the 2008 Ullman Sails Inshore Championships. 6/21/2008 - FIRST OVERALL AT LA CINQUECENTO Ullman Sails customer Furio Gelletti and crew on Comet 45 “Wanderlust” took top honors in the IRC Italian long distance race “La Cinquecento” last week, June 15-21, 2008. “Wanderlust” won the crew division with 100% Ullman Sails inventory. 6/16/2008 - INMARSAT HEDGEHOG TAKES 3RD AT J/24 WORLDS IN SARDINIA The 2007 European Champion team “Inmarsat Hedgehog” finished third overall last week at the J/24 Class 2008 World Championship in Cargionne, Italy, June 5-13, 2008. Competing with 100% Ullman Sails inventory, the Hedgehog team, helmed by Ian Southworth, was in the hunt for the title heading into the last day of racing. 6/16/2008 - JANOV AND J/105 TEAM WIN SECOND NOOD OF 2008 Ullman Sails customer Jeff Janov and his J/105 team won their second NOOD regatta of the season last weekend in Chicago, taking first overall in the 23-boat fleet. Janov, who chartered a boat in Chicago for this event, also took first place in the J/105 fleet on his boat “Invisible” at the San Diego NOOD in March. 6/9/2008 - AUSTRALIAN TEAM TAKES 3RD AT FD EUROPEANS Australians Norman Rydge and Richard Scarr took third place overall at the 2008 International Flying Dutchman Open European Championships last week Rabac, Croatia. Sailing with a 100% Ullman Sails inventory, the team stayed close to the front of the fleet for the majority of the regatta, despite struggling with gear issues prior to the start of the event. 6/8/2008 - THE 2008 MELGES 24 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS The 2008 Melges 24 World Championships wrapped up Friday in Porto Cervo, Sardinia, with Italian boat “Uka Uka Racing” winning the title. The Ullman Sails Dacron mainsail proved to be a powerful tool for the top competitors in the fleet. 6/8/2008 - “VIPERA” CLAIMS FIRST AT IRC ADRIATIC CHAMPS IN ITALY A little Ullman Sails boat had a big victory in the 2008 IRC Adriatic Championship in the Gulf of Trieste on June 8, 2008. Diego Paoletti’s 28-foot Delta 84 “Vipera” took first place overall in the event with 100% Ullman Sails, claiming the IRC International Trophy of the Adriatic. 6/3/2008 - BIG FLEET WINS AT CAL RACE WEEK There was big Ullman wins at the 2008 Cal Race Week last weekend hosted by California Yacht Club, May 31-June 1st. Ullman Sails customers won 6 of the 11 classes competing, including Gary Mozer’s “Current Obsession” who took first in the J/105 fleet. 5/30/2008 - SOVEREL 33 ‘GRAPHIX’ CONTINUES THE WINNING STREAK Tom Gilbert and his team on Soverel 33 “Graphix” won their class and overall in division last weekend at the 65th Swiftsure International Yacht Race, maintaining their winning streak since purchasing Ullman Sails. |
